02Slow costs you twice

03Core Web Vitals, in plain language

Google measures real user experience with three numbers, together called Core Web Vitals. They sound technical. They describe things your visitors feel every day.

04LCP, how fast the main content shows up

Largest Contentful Paint measures how long until the biggest, most important thing on the page, usually the hero image or headline, actually appears. If it takes too long, visitors think the page is broken. Google wants this under 2.5 seconds.

05INP, how fast the page responds to a tap

Interaction to Next Paint measures the lag between a visitor clicking or tapping and the page responding. A page that looks loaded but freezes when touched feels broken in a different, more frustrating way. Low INP means the site reacts instantly.

06CLS, how much the page jumps around

Cumulative Layout Shift measures visual stability, how much content jolts and moves as the page loads. You've felt it: you go to tap a button, an image loads above it, and you tap the wrong thing. A low CLS score means the page stays put. Together these are a ranking factor, and a site that passes them ranks better and feels better to use.

07What's actually slowing your site down

Almost every slow site is slow for a handful of common, fixable reasons. You rarely need to rebuild. You need to find which apply and fix them in the right order.

08Images doing far too much work

The most common culprit by a wide margin. Huge, uncompressed images in the wrong format, loaded at full size and then shrunk by the browser. Right-sizing, compressing, and serving modern formats often cuts load time dramatically on its own.

09Too much code, loading too early

Bloated scripts, unused CSS, and heavy third-party tags, chat widgets, analytics, ad pixels, that all demand attention before the page can render. We trim what isn't needed and defer what can wait, so the page becomes usable sooner.

10A slow server and no caching

If the server is slow to respond, nothing else you do matters as much. Cheap or misconfigured hosting, no caching layer, and no CDN mean every visitor waits for the site to be built from scratch. Caching and a CDN serve most visitors a ready-made page instead.

Do I need to rebuild my site to make it faster?

Usually not. The large majority of slow sites are slow because of fixable issues, oversized images, missing caching, bloated scripts, slow hosting, none of which require a rebuild. We only recommend rebuilding when the underlying platform itself is the bottleneck, and we tell you plainly if that's the case rather than selling a rebuild you don't need.

Does site speed really affect my Google ranking?

Yes. Core Web Vitals are a confirmed Google ranking factor, so a faster site has a direct advantage in search. Speed also affects rankings indirectly: slow sites have higher bounce rates and lower engagement, and Google reads those signals too. Faster pages rank better and convert better, which is why speed work tends to pay for itself.
